📍1. Kulai Kelapa Sawit – Mural Street Art

Once known as “Chang An Village,” this Hakka settlement was relocated in 1949 by the British colonial government to prevent support for guerrilla forces, giving rise to the "26 Miles New Village" — now known as Kelapa Sawit.

Since 2014, local art groups have turned the village into an open-air gallery during Malaysia’s National Day celebrations through the Hakka Kelapa Sawit Art Festival. Murals here reflect the rich Hakka culture, with meaningful symbols like 26 koi fish representing “26 Miles.”

Since 2020, the village has added creative 3D art installations, such as oversized matchboxes and a giant spider, turning the streets into a quirky and colorful attraction for tourists and photographers alike.

📍2. Innercity – JB City Square Mall

Tucked away on the fourth floor of Johor Bahru’s City Square Mall, Innercity blends retail therapy with artistic expression.

This indoor mural zone showcases vibrant artworks that celebrate Malaysia’s traditional lifestyle and culture — a perfect photo-op spot sheltered from the heat.

Paired with a boutique shopping lane and a mini “street food” section, the space offers a unique combination of local charm, nostalgia, and convenience, all under one roof.

📍3. The Street Art Alleys of Kluang

Since 2016, Kluang has transformed its quiet back alleys into a 200-meter-long open-air street art gallery, filled with stunning murals by both local and international artists.

Themes range from agriculture, wildlife, and trains to local history and daily life. The murals invite slow exploration and are complemented by nearby cafes.

One highlight is the mural of five children folding ketupat — created in 2017 by local artist Tao Chua — representing Malaysia’s ethnic harmony. Newer additions include the heroic “Keluang Man” and a beautifully painted kingfisher, connecting culture with nature.
